Training and Testing

Bill Anderson and Loman Browne at the Hamilton Club

This coming weekend, 9th and 10th May, there is a Training and Testing event at the West Calder club in Lothian, and two experienced BMFA examiners will be there. They have a few tests lined up already, but if any other candidates wish to go along and take part, or even just watch and learn, pick up procedural tips from the examiners, it is not too late to contact the Area Achievement scheme Coordinator (Nick Reeves nickonthemove1@gmail.com or via ‘contact us’ page on Area website) or contact the West Calder club (Tom Laird tomlaird100@gmail.com). Tom can also give directions to his club. You can of course just turn up for A and B tests, but then we can’t let you know of weather problems or any unforeseen curtailment. C tests or club examiner qualification tests must be pre-arranged.

Scotland Area BMFA, in conjunction with the SAA, have organised four Training and Testing events in central Scotland in 2026, as follows:-

West Calder club on 9th and 10th May

Clyde Valley Flyers (near Kilmacolm) on 27th and 28th June

Balbedie club near Loch Leven on 22nd and 23rd August

Hamilton club on 3rd and 4th October

Any BMFA member wishing to take part in these events should contact the host club and/or the Area Achievement Scheme Coordinator (Nick Reeves nickonthemove1@gmail.com or via ‘contact us’ page on Area website).

If a BMFA affiliated club, outside the central belt, has candidates unwilling to travel long distances to undertake tests, then the Scotland Area is willing and able to arrange a testing session at the request of the club. In that case, as above, contact Area Achievements Coordinator Nick Reeves nickonthemove1@gmail.com or via ‘contact us’ page on Area website. It would be good to arrange a visit for more than just one candidate. And if the club in questions requests to have one of their members approved as a Club Examiner, if approved, that would allow A tests within that and nearby clubs in future.
